20 Tips for a Happier Life

Most of these will probably be discussed in more detail in future posts, but for now here are my 20 tips to make happiness a more common emotional state in your life. Whether you are feeling particularly low, or are just generally curious as to how to improve your wellbeing, use this list to your advantage.

  1. Stay close to people you can open up to whilst being completely yourself.
  2. Use creativity as an outlet for unleashing thoughts.
  3. Stick to a routine and have tasks or aims that you are working towards.
  4. Seek help if you need it; talk to your GP or access a counsellor.
  5. Watch motivational films, people overcoming hardships and struggles.
  6. Don’t comfort eat to numb emotions. If you struggle with this then make it a goal.
  7. Sport sport sport.
  8. Make an effort to be loving to other people.
  9. Get lost in a hobby e.g. cooking, photography, drawing.
  10. Don’t block out tough thoughts, allow them into your mental space.
  11. Research inspirational role models and learn from how they live.
  12. TEDx Talks. Knowledge is power.
  13. Don’t live through your phone.
  14. If you don’t enjoy your job do something else.
  15. A circle of five close friends is better than 300 acquaintances.
  16. Don’t judge yourself against other people.
  17. Meditation and mindfulness. If you say you can’t do it, keep trying.
  18. ‘Keep your friends close but your enemies closer’ is a load of rubbish.
  19. Spend money on events and memories not superficial, tangible goods.
  20. One step at a time. Don’t get frustrated breaking negative habits.
